This over-riding Customs requirement for obtaining accurate shipment data in advance of goods’ arrival can only really be satisfied if both the Customs service and traders or carriers are using automated systems and ideally, integrated systems. Standardised and harmonised information requirements and procedures are essential to establish the common understanding which allows for an effective and efficient exchange of information between all parties involved in the international cross-border movement.
