Background
The global aerospace and defence industry is going through one of the most
challenging periods in recent history. Global Customs Compliance Ltd has been serving global
players in this sector for many years, and has developed specialist insight
into areas such as financing and expansion into new territories.
Customs and international
trade issues
Aerospace: Under the
GATT agreement for civil aircraft and
their parts, importers of aircraft and
aircraft parts parts, components and
other goods falling within chapters 25-97
of the Tariff, of a kind to be incorporated
in or used in the manufacture, repair,
maintenance, rebuilding, modification
or conversion of civil aircraft can benefit
from relief from import duties.
Defence: A number of relief's from customs duty exist for goods imported
in connection with military contracts; NATO infrastructure contracts; and for
the provision and maintenance of US defence facilities. In addition, many countries
operate suspensions of duties on a wide range of goods for military equipment,
such as uniforms, footwear as well as tanks, guns etc.
Solutions to help
you succeed
Aerospace: Under the
GATT agreement for civil aircraft and
their parts, importers who wish to take
advantage of its end-use relief provisions
are required to be authorised before
they import or receive end-use goods.
These authorisations can take many forms,
with different reporting structures and
documentary requirements. We can help
aerospace companies choose the most appropriate
method and ensure they they are operating
the procedure scorrectly.
We have provided customs advice in respect of a number of re-fleeting programme
sbetween the USA and the EU via the three following financing structures:
- Loan/mortgage structure;
- Operating lease structure;
- Tax lease structure.
We are able to ensure that the customs authorisations are operated properly under
all of these structures and that a permanent establishment is avoided.
Defence: Imports and
exports of defence equipment is a very
complex area and one where professional
advice is highly recommended. We have
obtained duty relief's in respect of
equipment imported temporarily by contractors
for use under contracts in connection
with the provision and maintenance
of defence facilities. We can advise
of import duty suspensions as well
as export licensing requirements.
